Project Spotlight

WSDOT and Sound Transit recently added high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes in both directions of the I-90 mainline between Seattle and Bellevue. This project preserves the three existing general purpose lanes in each direction while adding all-day HOV lanes. This modification also provided direct access ramps for transit, carpools, and vanpools. David P. Wilson Company furnished the (16) new Jet Fans which are visible while driving eastbound thru the Mount Baker Tunnel.  In addition to Jet Fans, larger modifications were made to existing underground centrifugal fans to overcome the additional pressure drop resulting from this new design.

The need for tunnel ventilation is critical for the safety of any person utilizing metro, light rail, or road tunnels throughout the world. Typically these fans are used for smoke extraction and ventilation control during emergency conditions. They can also be used to control exhaust fumes and to provide standard ventilation when required.
